Mumbai: 15,000 eligible hawkers to be issued identity cards

Mumbai: The BMC will issue identity cards to 15,000-odd hawkers found eligible during a registration drive.

The plan is to either hand over bar-coded cards or embossed cards, said senior BMC officials. “Bar-coded cards will be helpful as all data can be scanned immediately in case one needs to verify things,” said a senior official. “Also, with an embossed identity card, it cannot be transferred to someone else. So, only eligible hawkers can hawk only at the designated spot.”
