Mumbai: Charging stations for electric vehicles will be allowed at 28 public parking lots in basements, stilts and on parking floors by the month-end.

Municipal commissioner Praveen Pardeshi, in a speaking order, has directed insertion of charging stations for electric vehicles in Development Control Regulation 34. The regulation 34 (3.1) allows 50 sq m (approx 500 sq ft) for setting up of battery charging and repairing facilities in residential, commercial and industrial zones. At present, there are eight to 10 charging stations in the city. Sources said there are not more than 2,000 e-vehicles in Mumbai region, with maximum being e-scooters.
