Byculla Footpaths will see pedestrians after 40 years as BMC demolishes 157 hutments along Morland Road

Byculla is finally getting its footpaths back. The BMC on Tuesday demolished 157 hutments on the footpaths along Morland Road that connects Byculla to Mumbai Central. Residents of the 40-year-old hutments will be moved to Chembur’s Mulund Nagar area where they will get accommodation as project-affected persons (PAPs). They are one of the first batches of hutment dwellers who will not be shifted to BMC’s PAP housing in Mahul since the High Court has asked the civic body to stop transferring people there owing to inhuman living conditions.
