BMC and police to conduct 1-month khataara drive
On the first three days of the drive, the BMC will assess the number of unclaimed vehicles before issuing seven-day notices to owners; MMRDA offers land in Taloja to dump clunkers.
The state government has asked the BMC and Mumbai Police to conduct a special one-month drive to weed out abandoned vehicles, as they pose a major obstacle vis-a-vis hygiene and safety in the city. The date to begin the drive has not been decided yet. The action will be taken under the relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act, the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Act and the Maharashtra Municipalities Act.
