Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Act & Rules

In order to effectively lay out provisions for safety in case of fires and the measures to be taken to save lives in all types of buildings in Maharashtra, the State Government passed the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Act, 2006 in the year 2008. This Act laid out a structure for the Fire Services Departments, as well as rules pertaining to funding and personnel. It also included regulations and Fire Protection Requirements for different types of buildings, and the various fees due to Authorities.

In the year 2009, the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Rules were notified by the Government of Maharashtra. These rules are in addition to the Act, and covered specific issues and procedures relating to fire inspections, license applications, and reporting, among others.
