Fire Safety Checklist for Hospitals

Hospitals face a high risk of fire due to the presence of flammable chemicals, pressurised oxygen lines, and large amounts of other flammable material. The large numbers of invalids and sick patients who cannot be evacuated easily compound the problems faced by hospitals in times of emergency.

To try and ensure greater levels of preparedness and fire safety, the Directorate of Fire Services of the Government of Maharashtra in January 2011, issued a specific Fire Safety Checklist aimed at hospitals.

The checklist enables hospitals to evaluate themselves on important fire safety parameters such as the status of active fire protection systems, passive fire prevention systems, the level of awareness of fire prevention measures and how to respond to a fire, as well as general information about the building.
