Soon, bridges will be able to send out warnings
Sensors on yet-to-be-opened rail overbridge will give constant updates on structural stability
Unsafe bridges may soon start sending out warning signals, thanks to an innovation by the Central Railway and the IIT-Roorkee.
In a first such experiment in the country, 40 sensors have been fitted on two girders of the Belapur-Kile junction rail overbridge on Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai. These sensors will alert a central team to the presence of faults and stresses in the girders and provide an accurate assessment of the strength of the bridge.
