Mumbai’s vehicle density 15 times that of Maharashtra
Mumbai: City roads are bursting at the seams. Mumbai’s vehicle density of 1,900/km is 15 times than that of Maharashtra’s 123/km, the 2019-20 state economic survey report shows.
With the city’s road length almost the same for nearly a decade—around 2,000km—this has led to vehicle density per km to increase by 35% over the last five years, the report states. According to previous survey reports, in 2015-16, Mumbai’s vehicle density was 1,410/km, in 2016-17, it was 1,525/km; in 2017-18, it was 1,675/km; and in 2018-19, it increased to 1,800/km.
