HAVE YOU MADE THE BIG SWITCH YET?
Come Saturday, and none of your excuses for still holding onto single-use plastic items will be entertained. For, the three-month grace period for the statewide plastic ban, which was enforced on March 23, will come to an end tomorrow.
And keeping a watch on Mumbaikars will be a task force of 249 inspectors. These inspectors have been authorised to slap a penalty ranging from Rs 5,000-Rs 25,000 on errant shops, markets, malls, street hawkers and citizens. The squad will be authorised to take action under section 12 of the Maharashtra Non-Biodegradable Plastic Control Act and will have to inform their team heads the spots they will cover every day.
