Fear of penalty prompts spike in use of parking lots

Mumbai: Two weeks into the stringent parking policy and several city roads already appear visibly wider.

The civic body levies fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 on vehicle owners for occupying roads within a 500-metre radius of public parking lots (PPL). The BMC has raked in Rs 51.1 lakh by penalizing 819 vehicles between July 7 and 25.
