On Day 2, banned plastics found in only 9% of shops
With the enforcement of the state-wide plastic ban, commercial establishments and citizens alike have started to shun single-use plastic items. On the second day of the ban, the BMC found such plastic products in only 87, or around 9%, of the 942 commercial outlets in the Chembur-Ghatkopar areas it inspected on Sunday. Around 600 kgs of plastic was seized and Rs 4 lakh collected in fines from the violators. Seven establishments that refused to pay the Rs 5,000 fine would be prosecuted, officials said.
