Churchgate-Virar tracks throw up 16,000 kg garbage
30,000 people cleared the tracks as part of a cleanliness drive on Tuesday and found an astonishing amount of waster, mostly plastic, from Churchgate to Virar.
Eleven days after trains on the Western line came to a grinding halt when heavy rains and water from Mithi River flooded the tracks between Mahim and Bandra, the Western Railway removed around 16,000 kg of garbage – most of which was plastic waste – from the tracks between Churchgate and Virar yesterday.
