Central Railway’s AC local may run from Thane to Vashi
The Goregaon-CSMT route was nixed after CR found that the AC local wouldn’t be able to pass through the low overbridges along the way.
The Central Railway (CR) is now likely to run its first air-conditioned train on the Trans-Harbour Line, on Thane-Vashi and Thane-Panvel routes, accourding to sources. The CR was earlier considering introducing it on the Harbour Line, between CSMT and Goregaon, or the main suburban line. However, there are British-era bridges on both routes and the train is ‘too tall’ to pass under them – its height is over the permissible limit of 4.270 metres.
