Cars, bikes now occupy 77% of Mumbai roads, buses 2%
The road space share of private vehicles in the city has gone up from 59% to 77% in two decades. At the same time, buses’ share of road space has gone down from 6.2% to 2.2%. Public transport overall, including taxis, autos and buses, occupy 15% of the city’s roads. The data is contained in a report by the Mumbai Environmental Social Network, which comprises transport experts and activists.
