After Amritsar tragedy, Central Railway to shut level crossing gates with rampant trespassing
It takes a tragedy for the Indian Railways to wake up from slumber and act. Following Amritsar tragedy, in which 61 people were mowed down by a train, the Central Railway has decided to identify locations near level crossings, next to tracks and rail land where trespassing is rampant. It has also asked the civic bodies of Thane and Kalyan-Dombivali to the shut level crossing gates at Diva, Kalwa and Ambivali which are major deathtraps for people.
