125 roadside shops razed in BMC drive near Chembur

Mumbai: In a massive demolition drive Amar Mahal Junction, BMC on Wednesday razed 125 commercial structures on the roadside to reduce traffic bottlenecks. Nearly 100 more structures are slated to be demolished.

The BMC started the drive on Tuesday, a month after the Supreme Court refused to grant relief to the shop keepers. The rehabilitation and demolition dispute was pending since 2014. Civic officials started after all the structures are removed, motorists can expect relief as the road will be widened.
