Still a month of polling left in Maharashtra, already Rs 75.8 crore seized

For state chief electoral officer Ashwani Kumar, a low-profile IAS officer (1987 batch), his chief task is to ensure the mega democratic process is free, fair and ethical. He is leading the charge with more than a million employees – seven lakh drawn from the state and central governments, as well as personnel from banks, PSUs, and nearly 2.5 lakh police personnel. He speaks to TOI’s Prafulla Marpakwar about preparedness for smooth polling in 95,473 booths across the state.
