Serious fire incidents rise over 40% in Mumbai

The fire brigade recorded a 40% rise in calls on major fires in 2018, though the total number of calls on all tyoes of fires dropped. Around 20 people have died in recent weeks in several blazes across the city.

During 2016 to 2018, the fire brigade received almost 15,500 fire calls, of which 214 fell in various categories of ‘serious’ fires (see graphic). While in 2017, there were 79 such calls, last year’s figure was 112 – a jump of over 40%.
