‘Delay plastic bags ban by 7 yrs, will buy back bags for 50 paise per piece’

Hit by the ban on manufacturing and use of plastic bags in the state, members of the Plastic Bag Manufacturers’ Association of India on Thursday urged the government to provide a seven-year moratorium period to exit the industry. During their meeting with environment secretary Satish Gavai and state pollution control board officials, they expressed willingness to accept any monolayer plastic bag, including small pouches, from consumers at 50 paise per piece in lieu of pushing back the ban by seven years till they exit the business.
