What can you do at the MCGM’s Water Works Department?

The Water Works Department is an Administrative Department of MCGM that issues various Permits in consultation with and advice from other technical advisory departments like Engineering, Assessment & Collection, and the Pest Control Department etc. In view of this, it is necessary to obtain a Permit from the Water Works department when applying for a new water connection.

 

Who authorizes a water connection?

  • The Water Works Department of the local Ward Office authorizes the water connection

How do you apply?

  • Visit the Water Works Department of your local Ward office directly
  • Fill and submit the standard application form to the Water Works Department of your local Ward office

 

The Application for issuing a new water line connection depends on the category of the connection.

Categories of Water Line Connection:

Approving Authority Assistant Engineer Water Works/ Executive Engineer – WW, Dy. Hydraulic Engineer, Hydraulic. Engineer depending on the diameter of pipe line)
Processing Duration Seven days (per scrutiny level) for all other applications from the date of submission of valid application along with required documents. (However, 7 days may be difficult with some applications, which may take beyond 6 months. The Water Works department can process the application within 7 days provided A&C, AEE, PCO has approved it and all taxes are paid).
Application Scrutiny Levels Normally there are two levels scrutiny for all applications. More levels than two required, depending on diameter of pipeline.

In case of water leakage or a burst pipe:

  • Call or visit your Water Works Department of the local ward office and register a complaint
  • The labour staff will visit the site and investigate the situation
  • If the problem is found out of Municipal limit (i.e. private property) the owner will be sent a notice to fix the leak in 1-3 days, depending on the degree of the leak. Or else the water connection will be disconnected.
  • If the leak is in Municipal limit, the engineering staff immediately attends to the problem.

 

In case of any bill dispute:

  • Visit the Water Works Department of the concerned Ward Office and register your dispute
  • Also register your email id and your mobile number to get instant bill related updates
  • The dispute must be registered before the due date
  • 50% of the dispute bill amount must be paid regardless of any claims by the complaintant
