Government Guidelines Related to Fire Safety for High Rise Buildings

In the context of fire safety, special attention must be given to all tall buildings and high-rises. These buildings need to be analysed with regard to their height, competence of fire fighting facilities, distance from fire stations and other emergency and evacuation requirements.

In light of this the Union Ministry of Environment and forest has issued guidelines on 7th February, 2012 mandating that the height of a building be directly linked to width of the road and its distance from the nearest Fire Station.

It also covered guidelines related to mandatory mock-up drills, obtaining NOCs from relevant authorities and compliance with fire safety regulations.
